A Penguin (Children are standing) A penguin when he goes somewhere (waddle from side to side) Will walk or swim; here's why: (waddle first, then "swim") Although he has two bird-like wings, (hold up two fingers) He simply cannot fly! (tuck hands into armpits and "flap" wings) |
Penguin Meish Goldish
I know a bird That cannot fly: Penguin is its name It cannot fly, But it can swim With speed that wins it fame! I know a bird That lives on ice And waddles by the sea. It looks so cute In its black and white suit, As handsome as can be! |
The Penguin Roxanne Williams
I am a bird you know quite well, All dressed in black and white. And even though I do have wings They're not designed for flight.
I waddle, waddle, waddle, On my funny little feet. Across the icy snow I go To find a fishy treat! |

Art Activities |
Hand and Footprint Penguins These penguins were made from each child's foot and hand traced on black construction paper. The foot is turned heel side up, and the hand is cut in between the pointer and tall man fingers all the way through the palm. The thumb and pointer finger become the feet and the other three fingers become the wing. Students use a white crayon to color in the tummy and make an eye. Then they trace around their thumb on an orange piece of construction paper and use for the beak.

Macaroni Penguin I found this idea at http://kinderteacher.com/PenguinActivities.htm. The following sizes of construction paper are needed to make this cute little penguin. Black body: 9 x 12 inches White center body; 8 x 9 inches Pink feet: 3 x 4 inches Black wings: 3 x 4 inches Yellow feathers: 2 x 4 inches Black feathers on top of head: 2 x 4 inches Orange Beak: 2 1/2 inch square White eyes: 1 1/2 inch square Orange eye: 1 inch square Orange bow: 1 1/2 x 3 inches I cut out the bows for each of my kinders, because they had a difficult time figuring it out.
